Every resident at Brookstone Terrace of Greensboro has a story worth telling, and Mr. Tom Rich has more than a few. In this resident spotlight, Tom sits down with our team to talk about his life, his first days in the community, and why he now says he would recommend it to anybody.
A life of service and hard work
Tom was born in 1946. After finishing high school, he joined the military because he wanted to serve his country, and he saw it as a good opportunity to do just that. From there, he spent the next 30 years working a variety of jobs for AT&T.
Retirement did not slow him down for long. In his own words, he just can’t sit around and do nothing, so he started his own business, Rich Communications. When it stopped being fun, he retired a second time. As our team joked in the video, second time’s the charm.
From quiet newcomer to the life of the party
Tom is honest about his first days with us. When he moved in, he was quiet and kept to himself, and he admits he was not sure about the move at first. Over the last couple of years, though, he has truly come out of his shell.
Today, Tom comes to everything. He dances, he cracks jokes, and he has become our go-to trivia expert. He describes himself as more of a listener than a talker, and he loves that there is always someone around to sit and visit with.
“I enjoy it here very much. I would recommend it to anybody for the friendliness and expertise of the staff.”

Staying active
Tom likes the exercise classes because, as he puts it, without them he would get creaky, just like a Rice Krispie treat.
Fun outings

Why connection matters in senior living
Tom’s story is a great reminder that the right community can make all the difference. Moving can feel like a big change, but with friendly neighbors, a full calendar of events and activities, and a team that genuinely gets to know each resident, people find their place and often surprise themselves.
