Originally from the Boston area, Ms. Janet chose to make Brookstone Terrace of Greensboro her home. In this interview, she shares her journey, what led to her decision and what life in our community means to her today.
From Boston to Greensboro
Ms. Janet grew up near Boston in Newton, Massachusetts, and still has the accent to prove it. When her husband retired, the couple traded a hundred inches of snow for North Carolina, and they loved it here.
A decision she made herself
After a difficult stretch, Ms. Janet found that keeping up a big house on her own, with all the housekeeping and cooking, had become too much, and she was alone a lot. So she told her son she thought she needed assisted living. He was relieved, because he had been thinking the same thing but did not want to bring it up. Her neighbors even helped her son tour communities, and Brookstone Terrace of Greensboro came out on top, just a mile and a half from her old neighborhood and close to her son.
“I said, try it out. Don’t say no to it yet. And it’s good for you and it’s good for the family.”

Life today
She admits she was a little nervous at first, and she never imagined living in one room after a large home. But she is a friendly person, she made friends quickly and she loves the staff. She cannot find one person who has not been nice to her. When her son checks in every couple of months to ask if she is all right, her answer is always the same: she loves it here. Concerts, trips and lunches out keep her calendar full.
