Mary knows what she likes at mealtime. She gives high marks to steamed broccoli cooked just right, and to a pasta salad with pickles and onions that she says she could have eaten a whole plate of. It is a good reminder that dining is about more than nutrition; it is one of the everyday pleasures that make a place feel like home.
A welcome committee, or a comedy act?
Ivie invites Mary to join a welcome committee for new residents, since she has a kind face and loves meeting people. Mary has another idea: maybe she could be the comedian instead. Ivie is all in, and even floats the idea of a talent show. As Ivie tells her, true comedy is rooted in truth, and Mary has it naturally.
