To find the right fit, it’s crucial to consider factors such as the level of care provided, available amenities and activities, the warmth and professionalism of the staff, the atmosphere and ambiance, and the sense of belonging within the community.

Taking the time to explore options and ask questions to understand the community’s values and philosophy will ultimately lead to a fulfilling and enriching experience for you and your loved one.

Here are 7 things to look for when exploring Assisted Living facilities.

  1. Attractiveness
    Are you impressed with the décor and home-like feel? Does the community offer ample natural and interior lighting? Is there a beautiful outdoor space to enjoy? Are the residential spaces to your liking? Can you imagine yourself or a loved one feeling truly comfortable living here?
  2. Sense of Community
    Were you welcomed warmly upon your arrival? Does the Executive Director make an effort to know the names of residents and staff and engage with them warmly as you explore the community? Are you experiencing friendly interactions with people around you?
  3. Human Engagement
    Are the residents enjoying each other’s company and actively participating in programs and activities? Can you spot signs of a vibrant and diverse range of social, fitness, and lifelong learning opportunities? Look for a calendar of events or community notices. Also, take note of the friendly and approachable staff members.
  4. Dining Experience
    Are meals tasty and nutritious? Is the menu filled with a variety of options? Do you find the dining room inviting and enjoyable? Is the wait staff friendly and courteous?
  5. Health and Safety
    Does the community have appropriate health and safety measures? Is there 24-hour emergency response, handrails throughout the building, grab bars in the bathrooms, floors that are non-skid and carpets that are easy to walk on? Is the facility outfitted with appropriate fire prevention and response features such as smoke detectors and sprinklers?
  6. Communication
    Are you able to fully describe your interest in the assisted living community? Are you focused on specific solutions and services the community can offer to help your or your loved one, or are you just listening to a long list of their amenities? Has the community clearly explained all of the services and monthly costs, including how personal care is billed? Do you have a clear understanding of the assessment and move-in process?
  7. Distinctiveness
    Does the community have any special or unique programs, or a way of doing things that just seems better? Does the person giving you the tour feel pride in their work and in the community? Do they speak about the facility’s values or mission and really mean it?

We chose Brookstone memory care because it was clean and well maintained, had resident activities, visible to staff at all times, had 4 CNTs on duty 24 hours a day with a day nurse and an assigned doctor, and we could enter 24/7 through a password protected door, so visits were never expected.

Each time I visited my family member..I’m always greated with a hello and a smile ..the residents are clean and neatly dressed..the food as well smells good and it’s served to the residents on time never have I heard them upset about their meals not being on time the building is clean and all the staff are very friendly and helpful I’m really proud of one person by the name of Samantha Hanna she has been with the company for a while..and has worked her way up into management you can tell she love her job and care about her residents..people that don’t work in this field take likely to what’s needed to make sure things are ran smoothly to satisfy everyone..keep doing what you’re doing Ms Hanna and the rest of the staff ..job well done 👏 ✔️ 👍
